Northern Ireland Water Company pollution record

The BBC reports that the Northern Ireland Water Authority was responsible for more than 1,500 cases of pollution during the years 2000 to 2005.

Most were minor cases, and because of the status of the authority it is not prosecuted or fined for these transgressions, but in the future it may well be - under present plans, in April 2007 the authority will become Northern Ireland Water Ltd. and crown immunity will cease.

Climate water threat to millions

Christian development agency Tearfund have issued a report, Feeling the Heat, claiming that the global area facing conditions of "extreme" drought will increase five times by 2050. BBC news has the article, and the Tearfund website has the report.

Tearfund call for action to prevent the growth of "climate refugees", stating that there are already about 25 million globally, and that this is set to rise to over 200 million by 2050 if action is not taken early.
